What Is Necessary After All ...

On a day when things haven't gone quite right ... and the world seems to be spinning a bit out of control and I'm not hanging on too well ...

... it's nice to sit in my studio, safe and dry, watching the thunderstorm unfold outside.

And, I haven't shared a blessing or a poem on this page in a long, long while. And, so here you go. This is from Rainer Maria Rilke, an early 20th century German poet. His poem for you today:

What is necessary, after all,
Is only this: solitude.
Vast inner solitude.
To walk inside yourself
and meet no one for hours --
that is what you must be able to attain.

Enjoy the quiet, peaceful place that is inside you. Ahh, paradise!

Meditation ~ Join Us Sunday, May 31

Just an update to our May meditation schedule ... we WILL hold practice on:

  • Sunday, May 31
Practice is at 5:00 p.m. at Peaceful Hands Yoga Studio (145 Byrd Street in Orange).

Typically, we hold practice on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month, but occasionally a 5th Sunday in a month rolls around and we don't always know what to do with it. For May, we WILL hold practice.

We practice guided, walking, and silent meditation. We take time to stretch, we take time to breathe, and we take time to bathe our spirits in refreshing and revitalizing peacefulness.

Our practices have been so soothing and I leave them filled with renewed energy and a loving lightness in my step.

There's no charge to attend, although donations are gratefully accepted to help with studio expenses. Bolsters, pillows, and chairs are available to make your sitting time comfortable.

For more info, please click on the "Meditation" link under Topics on the right hand column. Or email me at peacefulhands (at) gmail.com or call 540-672-9528.

I hope you will join us ...

More Clover & Dandelion Thank You's

Updated ~ May 18, 2009

The bunnies and other Wildlife Center patients are rejoicing at all the tasty clover and dandelions people have been donating from their yards, pastures, and gardens.

Collecting a little bag of clover from your lawn is a small and easy thing to do, but it has been extremely helpful to the Wildlife Center patients. The Center is currently caring for 28 bunnies and they are devouring a grocery bag full of greens every day. With duckling and gosling season looming, the Center will definitely put every bit of greens we can supply to good use!

So, some more thank you's today to these recent dandelion and clover contributors:

Andrea ... Pam ... Carolyn (again!) ... Beppy (again!) ... Shannon (again!) ... Debbie ... Ellen ... Sandy ... Elisabeth (again!) ... and Sue.

I hope I haven't forgotten anybody. Do let me know if I have.

The Wildlife Center can still use your contributions ... scroll down for additional info on what to pick and where to bring it! Thank you!

Keep The Clover & Dandelions Coming!

The bunnies at the Wildlife Center are rejoicing ... and so thankful for the generosity of everyone who has scoured their lawns and gardens for clover and dandelions ... often in the rain!

The rehabbers at the Wildlife Center also thank you for being so kind and the need will continue for many weeks to come. And, soon, the ducklings and goslings will be coming in and they will love the greens to munch on as well.

Scroll down a message or two for the specifics on what to gather and where to bring it.

And, I want to send a delighted bunny cheer to the following folks who have been so generous so far:

Michelle ... Beppy ... Dotty ... Nancy ... Shannon ... Carolyn, Ruth & Ed ... Tom & Elisabeth ... Carol & Barbara ... and Malcolm.
Thank you!

The Wildlife Center Needs Your Dandelions & Clover!

The Wildlife Center of Virginia has its annual spring influx of rabbits and it's clear they don't particularly like the regular "hospital fare" the Center provides. What they do love is snacking on dandelions and clover.

Would you be willing to donate a bag of dandelions and clover from your yard?

If you're out in your yard, garden, or pasture (in untreated, pesticide- and chemical-free areas only, please) and you wander across some dandelions and/or clover, the Wildlife Center would love to have them! (Fresh is better, of course, so if you're coming to yoga class or have a massage scheduled, pull them up in the morning sometime and then bring them in with you. Or drop them off at my massage studio during the week.)

Just dandelions and clover. A little bag. A big bag. Every little bit helps. (And the dandelion flowers are fine to include.) The rabbits will need the bounty for many weeks to come ... and soon the goslings and ducklings will benefit from your donations as well. And, a happy, eating rabbit is a healing rabbit (or duckling or gosling or possum), and that makes the job easier for the Center's Vets and Rehabbers. (Several of the orphan bunnies had been losing weight ... but now that we've been bringing in dandelions and clover, they are eating again and gaining weight!)

Thank you in advance for helping out these wildlife patients.
