Autumn Yoga "Mini" Retreat is October 4 ~ Join Us!

Ahhhh, the cool, crisp air of autumn! Celebrate the arrival of these cooler days and the air energy of the season at a Yoga "Mini Retreat" that will focus on grounding body, mind, and spirit and preparing for nature's cooling and the gentle shortening of the Fall days ahead.

The Autumn Yoga Retreat will be held:

Saturday, October 4, 2008
9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Peaceful Hands Yoga Studio
145 Byrd Street in Orange, Virginia

UPDATE: The yoga retreat is full! Please let me know if you would like to be placed on the "wait list."

The day will include yoga, including a special Vinyasa Flow for the Autumn Season, self-massage to boost energy, and a blend of seasonally inspired Ayurvedic lifestyle tips to reduce stress, as well as balance and ground the body, mind, and spirit.

Morning meditation begins the day at 8:45 a.m. if you would like to come a bit early.

The Orange studio is a cozy and sacred space for yoga and meditation. There is very limited space available for this retreat. The cost is $50 for the retreat. SPECIAL: For students who are currently registered in either my Madison or Orange yoga sessions, the cost is $45.

September Meditation Schedule

I am so pleased to offer Meditation Practice in our Orange studio, Peaceful Hands Yoga Studio, on the First and Third Sundays of the month.

A simple meditative "sit" can rejuvenate your spirits and refresh the body and bring peaceful spaciousness to the mind.

Meditation Practice in September will be on the following dates:

  • Sunday, September 7
  • Sunday, September 21

Practice is held at 5:00 p.m. at Peaceful Hands Yoga Studio, on Byrd Street in Orange, Virginia.

Our practice includes guided meditation, a brief reading, walking meditation, and a quiet sitting practice and lasts about an hour.

No previous experience is necessary, just an open heart and the desire to find stillness within. Bringing our joined quiet energy together can be a wonderful experience. (And, there are pillows for floor-sitting and chairs for those who prefer a more "elevated" meditation seat.)

There is no cost to attend these sessions, but donations are accepted to help cover rent and expenses at the site. Madison Yoga Begins September 8

The Autumn Session of Madison Yoga begins on Monday, September 8 at Wetsel Middle School Library in Madison, Virginia.

The 8-week session is scheduled to run from Monday, September 8 through Monday, November 3. (NOTE: There will be no class on October 13.)

Madison classes are offered through the Madison Department of Parks & Facilities.

Orange Yoga Begins September 3

The Autumn Session of Orange Yoga begins on Wednesday, September 3 at Peaceful Hands Yoga Studio in downtown Orange, Virginia.

The 8-week session is scheduled to run from Wednesday, September 3 through Wednesday October 22.

(There will be no class on October 29.)

Madison & Orange Yoga ~ General Class Info

For the 2008-2009 Yoga Seasons ... here is some general information on my classes in Madison & Orange:

MADISON: Two classes are held on Mondays -- at 4:00 p.m. and at 5:30 p.m. at Wetsel Middle School in the Library.

Location -- Wetsel Middle School is located on Route 29, adjacent to the High School. Park in front of the school and come in the main doors. The library is ahead, door on the LEFT.

Cost -- Class costs are: $12 a class or, join for an 8-week session at the discounted rate of $64. Your first class with me is free. (Registered students also receive discounts on special classes, workshops, and retreats.)

What to Bring & What to Wear -- Please bring a yoga mat, if you have one, or a beach towel. We practice on a carpeted floor, but a bit of extra cushioning is helpful. Dress comfortably for exercise; yoga is done barefoot on your mat. You may wish to bring a sweater and socks or even a light blanket for the relaxation session at the end of class.

Make-Up Classes -- If you're registered for a session and miss a class you can make up the class by attending a class in Orange. Please complete your make-ups during the session (give or take a week). No need to ask if you can make-up a class ... you're always welcome in Orange!


ORANGE: Two classes are held on Wednesdays -- at 4:30 p.m. and at 6:00 p.m. at Peaceful Hands Yoga Studio in downtown Orange.

Location -- Peaceful Hands Yoga Studio is located at 145 Byrd Street in Orange. This is one block off of Main Street, approximately one block from the Main Street/Byrd Street stoplight (the 7-11 Stoplight). Coming from Main Street, one block over the train tracks, turn RIGHT at the 7-11 stoplight, and the building is one block ahead on the LEFT. The building is a brick building with a green awning (Johnny's Furniture Repair & Fox Clocks signs are out in front). Please park on the side of the building. Come in the main doors and follow the "Yoga" signs down the hall.

We have some "loaner mats" available at the Orange studio as well as pillows, bolsters, blankets and other props (which, contrary to popular belief, I do use now and then!). ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

You don't need to wait for a new session to start to join in -- you may join in at any time.

My classes are designed for all levels; beginners and long-time students of yoga are welcome (and all levels in-between). Don't worry if you've never been on a yoga mat before. Yoga has been around for thousands and thousands of years, in the great cosmic scheme of things, we're ALL beginners.

We practice basic hatha yoga and I like to explore and play with many different yoga practices -- including gentle Tibetan yoga, energizing Anusara yoga, and balancing Ayurvedic yoga. Every class includes some breathwork and time for relaxation and meditation. In addition, I like to blend in other beneficial practices, including a bit of pilates, tao-ist movement, and tai chi now and then. Yoga is a wonderful way to bring health, flexibility, and strength to the body; calm the mind and relieve stress; and rejuvenate the spirit.

Cancellations -- Occasionally classes are cancelled due to bad weather or other calendar conflicts. Session dates are adjusted accordingly. I post last-minute cancellations on this page, email the "yoga email list" as soon as an unexpected cancellation arises, and I call registered students to let them know.
