April Meditation Practice

Meditation Practice in the Orange Studio will be held on:

  • Sunday, April 6
  • Sunday, April 20

Practice is held on the first and third Sundays of the month at 5:00 p.m. at "Be Yoga" at Peaceful Hands Studio -- our Orange yoga space.

Our practice includes guided meditation, a reading, walking meditation, and a quiet sitting practice and lasts about an hour. No previous experience is required, just the desire to find stillness within.

Bring your own meditation pillow if you like. We also have pillows and bolsters for you to use. And, yes, you may sit in a chair too, if floor sitting is uncomfortable. We do move around periodically throughout the practice to ensure no stiff hips or knees!

There is no cost for the sessions, but donations are accepted which help cover rent and expenses in the space.

For more info you can contact me at peacefulhands (at) or call me at 540-672-9528. Or click on the "Meditation" label at the bottom of this post which will bring up previous posts about our practice. I hope you will join us!

Yoga Classes For 2008

Just to make it a bit easier to find things on this site, here's the general information about my yoga classes in both Madison and Orange.

Two classes are held on Mondays -- at 4:00 p.m. and at 5:30 p.m. at Wetsel Middle School in the Library.

Wetsel is located on Route 29, adjacent to the High School. Come in the main doors and the library is ahead, door on the LEFT.

Class costs are: $12 a class or, join for an 8-week session at the discounted rate of $64. Your first class with me is free.

Please bring a yoga mat -- if you have one -- or a beach towel. We practice on a carpeted floor, but a bit of extra cushioning is helpful. Dress comfortably.

Two classes are held on Wednesdays -- at 4:30 p.m. and at 6:00 p.m. at "BE YOGA" at Peaceful Hands Studio in downtown Orange.

The studio is located at 145 Byrd Street in Orange. This is one block off of Main Street, approximately one block from the Main Street/Byrd Street stoplight (the 7-11 Stoplight). From Main Street, turn RIGHT at this light, and the building is one block ahead on the LEFT. The building is a brick building with a green awning. Come in the main doors and follow the "Yoga" signs down the hall.

Class costs are: $12 a class or, joing for an 8-week session at the discounted rate of $64. Your first class with me is free.

Bring your yoga mat if you have one. We have some "loaner mats" available at the Orange studio as well as pillows, bolsters, and other props (which, contrary to popular belief, I do use now and then!).

You don't need to wait for a new session to start to join in -- you may join in at any time.

My classes are designed for all levels; beginners and long-time students of yoga are welcome (and all levels in-between). Don't worry if you've never been on a yoga mat before. Yoga has been around for thousands and thousands of years, in the great cosmic scheme of things, we're ALL beginners.

We practice basic hatha yoga and I like to explore and play with many different yoga practices -- including gentle Tibetan yoga, energizing Anusara yoga, and balancing Ayurvedic yoga. In addition, I like to blend in other beneficial practices, including a bit of pilates, tao-ist movement, and tai chi now and then. Yoga is a wonderful way to bring health, flexibility, and strength to the body; calm the mind and relieve stress; and rejuvenate the spirit.

For more info on the current session click on the "Madison Yoga" or "Orange Yoga" label at the bottom of this post, which will bring up a list of previous postings. Or contact me at peacefulhands (at) or call 540.672.9528.

Madison Spring Yoga Session Begins 3/17

The 8-week spring session of yoga in Madison will begin on Monday, March 17 and will run through Monday, May 12.

NOTE: There will be NO class on Monday, March 24.

Two classes are held at Wetsel Middle School in Madison on Mondays -- at 4:00 p.m. and at 5:30 p.m.

If there is bad weather, classes will be cancelled. I'll post same-day cancellations here on the blog, send an email, and I will also call those students who are registered for the session by 3:30 p.m. on those days. When in doubt, call me. 540/672-9528. We will extend the session accordingly.

For more information on class times/location/fees etc scroll down to previous messages or search this blog by clicking the label "Madison Yoga" at the bottom of this posting. Or contact me at peacefulhands (at) or call 540/672-9528.

I know that as the days grow warm and inviting, it becomes hard to bring yourself inside and unroll your mat. But remember, just as your garden needs spring tending, so do you. I hope you'll join us!

The Wonder of It All

I was putting my yoga class together the other day when I happened upon an old, old class plan I had tucked in a book. The reading we used for that class had slipped my mind, and I'm so pleased it has been slipped back in! I share it with you today because I find it a wonderful reminder of the joy of turning inward and how nice it is to take the time to celebrate our unique and beautiful inner spirits. May it be a special reminder of your inner beauty, light, and wisdom, as well.

Men go abroad to wonder at the heights of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motions of the stars, and they pass by themselves without wondering.

Yoga Make-Up Class Policy

Just a quick reminder for you, regarding the make-up policy for my Madison and Orange yoga classes.

If you're registered for the 8-week session at either Madison or Orange, you may make-up any missed classes by attending a class at the other site. That is, Madison students may always drop-in at an Orange class, and Orange students may always drop-in at a Madison class.

No need to ask if it's ok to come to the other place -- you are always welcome. Be sure to check the website though to make sure that class is being held on any given day.

I do ask that you make-up your missed classes during the session. Or, if you miss the last class of the session, please make it up within a week or two.

And, remember, when you sign up for the 8-week session you save $32 off the regular class cost of $12 a class, so that's like getting nearly 3 classes free. So that gives you a bit of wiggle room in case you miss a class here or there and aren't able to make it up.

If you ever have any questions, please do let me know. Email me at peacefulhands (at) or give me a call at 540-672-9528.

I hope you will make time in your schedule to make up your missed classes ... I want you to fill yourself up with all the yoga you can!
