Email "oops"

It's hard to believe sometimes that I actually get paid to proofread other people's materials. Perhaps I should give the same close consideration to my own emails!

In the email I sent out this Leap Day morning -- the dates of the March 2008 Meditation practice were ... well ... half correct. Here are the FULLY correct dates:

Meditation Practice in the Orange Studio will be held on:

Sunday, March 2
Sunday, March 16

Practice is held on the first and third Sundays of the month at 5:00 p.m. at "Be Yoga" at Peaceful Hands Studio -- our Orange yoga space.

(If you didn't get today's email, but would like to be on my yoga email list which keeps you up-to-date on class cancellations and other things in Madison and Orange, please email me at peacefulhands (at) and I'll add you to the list. And, keep checking the website too ... and I'll try to keep my dates straight!)

Madison Yoga -- Spring Session Begins Soon

A quick update on the Madison yoga spring session. The current session will conclude this Monday, March 3.

The new session begins March 17 and runs through May 12.

The library space is in use and unavailable on a couple dates in March -- there will be NO class on March 10 or March 25. (Since we lose a few classes in March, this might be a nice time time to drop by the Orange studio for a class ... or try out a Meditation session, as a way to keep your yoga routine intact!)

For additional information on Madison classes, including cost and location, etc., scroll down to previous messages on this blog, or simply search "Madison Yoga" in the search field and all the Madison yoga messages will come up.

I'll post another reminder as we draw closer to the start date. But, I thought I would give you a head's up about the upcoming cancellations. Thanks for being flexible!

Orange Yoga: Spring Session Begins March 5

It's nearly spring and you may notice a bit more "pep in your step". What a perfect time to unroll your mat and enjoy the energizing benefits of yoga. (And, you can also ease out the aches and pains of garden chores and other springtime tasks.)

The 8-week spring session of yoga in Orange will begin on Wednesday, March 5 and will run through Wednesday, April 30.

NOTE: There will be NO class on Wednesday March 26.

If there is bad weather, classes will be cancelled. I'll post same-day cancellations here on the blog, send an email, and I will also call those students who are registered for the session by 3:30 p.m. on those days. When in doubt, call me. 540/672-9528. We will extend the session accordingly.

For more information on class times/location/fees etc scroll down to previous messages or search this blog with the key words "Orange Yoga." Or contact me at peacefulhands (at) or call 540/672-9528.

I hope you'll join us!

Meditation Practice Schedule For March

Meditation Practice in the Orange Studio will be held on:
  • Sunday, March 2
  • Sunday, March 16

Practice is held on the first and third Sundays of the month at 5:00 p.m. at "Be Yoga" at Peaceful Hands Studio -- our Orange yoga space.

Our practice includes guided meditation, a reading, walking meditation, and a quiet sitting practice and lasts about an hour. No previous experience is required, just the desire to find stillness within.

Bring your own meditation pillow or use one of the pillows and bolsters that we have there. And, yes, you may sit in a chair too, if floor sitting is uncomfortable. There is no cost for the sessions, but donations are accepted which help cover rent and expenses in the space.

For more info you can contact me at peacefulhands (at) or call me at 540-672-9528. I hope you will join us!

Spring Yoga Retreat Is March 15

Enjoy a Yoga "Mini Retreat" to celebrate the beginning of Spring and to open body, mind, and spirit to the fresh new season ahead!

The Spring Retreat will be held:

Saturday, March 15, 2008
9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
"Be Yoga" at Peaceful Hands Studio
145 Byrd Street in Orange, Virginia

The day will include yoga, including the Springtime Salutation, self-massage instruction for "spring cleaning", meditation and reflection, and the vibrant energy of seasonally inspired Ayurvedic movement, music, and chant.

(For "early birds" an optional morning meditation will begin the day at 8:30 a.m.)

And, yes, there will be snacks at break time!

If you know the Orange studio, you know that it is a warm and sacred space for yoga and meditation. It is also a small space, so there is very limited space available for this retreat. Register early to ensure your spot.

The cost is $50 for the retreat. SPECIAL: For students who are currently registered in either my Madison or Orange classes, the cost is $45.

I hope you will join us for this lovely way to celebrate the dawn of spring!

For information or to register, contact me here at peacefulhands (at) or call me at 540-672-9528.

Age Is Not Measured In Years ...

A few of you asked for the quote which we used in yoga class last week. It came from Swami Bua who offered this wisdom when he was 110 years old. I last read of him in The New Yorker a few years ago. He was living in New York and was, at the time, 117 years old and still teaching yoga classes.

As I searched further, I discovered that the last line of this quotation has been attributed to many people over the years, most notably Douglas MacArthur.

So, with thanks to Swami Bua and General MacArthur, here is their wisdom for you:

"Youth is not a time of life -- it is a state of mind. It is not a matter of ripe cheeks, red lips, and supple knees. It is a temper of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions. It is freshness of the deep springs of life. Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years. People grow old only by deserting their ideals. Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul."
